Reframing employment pathways through lived experience

Hume Youth Services booked two Shout Out speakers to bring lived-experience representation to a panel on alternative pathways into work for diverse young people

The Context

Multicultural young people often navigate non-linear pathways into work, study and community leadership, yet these experiences are not always represented in employment conversations. Hume Youth Services booked Shout Out to bring lived-experience representation to a panel on alternative pathways to employment for diverse young people.

The challenge

Panels on employment pathways can default to service-provider or policy framing. Hume Youth Services needed the young people the panel was actually about to be the ones speaking.

Our approach

Shout Out provided two speakers whose lived experiences aligned with the panel topic and audience. The engagement created an opportunity for young people and service providers to hear directly from multicultural young people about pathways, barriers and possibilities beyond traditional employment routes.

The impact

The engagement demonstrated how Shout Out can strengthen youth employment conversations by bringing in authentic multicultural youth voices. The speakers’ stories helped make the topic relatable and gave the audience practical insight into how young people experience and navigate alternative pathways.

Both speakers’ shared their lived experience well through relatable stories that resonated strongly with our audience.
