Bringing multicultural youth voice into a council's first Youth Summit
Manningham Council's inaugural Youth Summit brought in Shout Out speakers to connect big civic themes to young people's own lives.
The Context
Manningham Council held its first Youth Summit and wanted young speakers to contribute to key themes including climate change, equality, mental health and political participation. Shout Out supported the summit by bringing multicultural youth perspectives into a local government youth engagement space.
The challenge
Civic themes like these can stay abstract for a youth audience unless someone in the room can connect them to lived, local experience.
Our approach
Shout Out matched the council with speakers who could speak to young people in a way that was relevant, engaging and grounded in lived experience. The engagement aimed to inspire youth participation and show young people that their voices matter in civic and community spaces.
The impact
The engagement showed that Shout Out can support councils to make youth events more representative and motivating. The speaker contribution helped encourage young people to participate in their communities, try new things and see themselves as part of local change.
