Practising leadership through participation
Voices in Action gave multicultural young people a structured space to build confidence, share ideas and connect across communities.
The Context
Culture Spring was engaged to work with Launch Housing to facilitate a roundtable bringing Youth Foyer students together in a shared space for learning and reflection. The primary objective was to embed student voice in a way that informs future improvements and provides tangible recommendations to strengthen cultural safety and inclusion.
Multicultural young people need practical opportunities to build confidence, share ideas and connect across communities. Without safe and structured youth-led spaces, their perspectives can remain underrepresented in program design, advocacy and decision-making. Voices in Action created a space for young people to practise leadership through participation.
The challenge
Leadership confidence is not built by telling young people they have a voice. It has to be practised, in a room that actually feels safe enough to use it.
Our approach
Culture Spring delivered Voices in Action as a workshop and roundtable-style engagement focused on youth voice, leadership and shared learning. The session created a respectful environment where young people could contribute ideas, hear different perspectives and practise using their voice in a group setting.
The impact
100% of respondents rated satisfaction 5 out of 5, and all five gave a leadership confidence rating of 4 or 5 (average 4.8/5). Feedback showed the workshop helped young people feel safe, respected and connected — evidence that a well-held room can shift confidence scores as reliably as a longer program.
